This ephemeral, stop-motion animated film – in which thousands of pieces of linoleum are painstakingly photographed to appear in continuous transformation, flowing from one form into another – is an allegory on the cycle of human life in the universe. Comprised of more than seven thousand separate images, it won the Technical Grand Prize at the Festival de Cannes in 1972.
