Director, Producer, Screenwriter

A graduate of the film programmes at Montreal’s Concordia University and the University of Southern California, Daniel Roby began his career by working as director of photography on several shorts and as a cameraman on Michel Jetté's Hochelaga (2000). In 1995, he launched the production company La Mafia – renamed Zone Films in 2000 – where he developed several short film projects, including Nos bras meurtris vous tendent le flambeau (2001), the first Canadian fiction film to be shot entirely in High Definition video.

In 2001, Roby served as line producer on Robert Aubert's Lila and directed his own short film, Quelques instants de la vie d'une fraise. His feature directing debut, La Peau Blanche (2004), premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival7, where it received the award for Best Canadian First Feature Film. It was also named one of Canada's Top Ten of 2004 by an independent, national panel of filmmakers, programmers, journalists and industry professionals.
