Alan Zweig’s Stealing Images features a slick protagonist – a smooth-talking, attitude-exuding night owl. Everything seems to be going his way. He’s got a wisecrack for everyone and everything that crosses his neon-lit path. He’s got it all figured out – or does he? A film about the deceptiveness of appearances, Stealing Images is a cautionary, film-noir fable about the fatal folly in believing everything we see and hear. It was named Best Canadian Short Film at the 1989 Festival of Festivals (now the Toronto International Film Festival®).
