One of three silhouette films made by independent animator Bryant Fryer as part of an abortive attempt to develop a permanent animation studio in Canada. Like Bye Bye Baby Bunting, the other notable film in the series, it has a remarkable fluidity of design and sense of depth in the imagery that at its best recalls the work of Lotte Reiniger. Bye Bye Baby Bunting and Sailors of the Guard may also be the first Canadian films to have had original music scores.
