The first official IMAX film, North of Superior was commissioned by Ontario Place at a cost of $270,000 and was presented to rave reviews on a huge curved screen at the Toronto theme park. The film, which proved to be very popular, presented a towering, breathtaking, wide-screen look at the almost untouched world of Northern Ontario. The aerial shots that provide an in-flight effect would become widely imitated in future IMAX films.
