Thiscompilation film describing the Battle of Britain is a classic of National Film Board wartime propaganda. It is clearly designed to persuade not only skeptical Canadians but also Americans – who at the time were neutral – that Britain could win the war because of the moral strength of its people.

The film’s success – it won an Academy Award® for best short documentary in 1941 – gave credibility to the efforts of the nascent NFB and the filmmaking methods of John Grierson and Stuart Legg. Originally produced for the Canada Carries Onseries, it was released internationally as part of The World in Actionseries.
