Based on a diary kept by Anne Claire Poirier during one of her pregnancies, this introspective and partly autobiographical docudrama ponders whether a woman can fully achieve self-realization while at the same time giving herself to the role of wife and mother. It follows Liette Desjardins during the last few weeks before the birth of her child, the difficult birth itself, and the following weeks as she faces the choice of returning to her career or devoting herself to her home and family.
Anne Claire Poirier’s first feature (and the first by any woman at the National Film Board) anticipates not only the En tant que femmes series, but also the approach Poirier would return to often during her career: the blend of personal introspection, actuality, fiction and political analysis.
