Michael Mabbott studied journalism at Dalhousie University’s King’s College in Halifax. He worked extensively as a freelance journalist and humour columnist before writing the fictional memoir “Cabbage Soup” and numerous short stories, including “23 Bucks and a Cracked Melon.” He also co-wrote and produced a half-hour comedy pilot for CBC Television called “First Date.”

His directorial debut, The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico, shared the Best Canadian First Feature Film Award at the Toronto International Film Festival® and was named one of Canada’s Top Ten of 2005 by an independent, national panel of filmmakers, programmers, journalists and industry professionals. He and the film’s star, Matt Murphy, were also nominated for two Genie Awards for Best Original Song. Mabbott’s second feature, Citizen Duane, premiered to positive reviews at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival.
