The first film ever to use the technique (introduced by Foldès) of computer-assisted animation, Metadata explores the universal desire to escape the demands of life. Animators Nestor Burtnyk and Marceli Wein used the computer at the National Research Council of Canada to manipulate hundreds of individual drawings by Foldès to produce a fluid, evolving effect. They later made use of the same technique in the Academy Award®-nominated La Faim (1974).
