James Allodi

Director, Screenwriter, Cinematographer, Actor
(b. February 26, 1967 Toronto, Ontario)

One of the more versatile young figures on the Canadian film scene, Jim Allodi has worked consistently as an actor in film and theatre, as well as a film editor, cinematographer and playwright. He has also contributed as a director to such television series as “Degrassi: The Next Generation” and “The Associates.” After studying film production at New York University, he attended the Canadian Film Centre's Director's Lab in 1997, where he made his fourth short film Cold Feet (1998), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival[7]. A tall, lanky actor with an affable, disarming presence, Allodi has worked with some of Canada's most original directors, including Peter Lynch (The Herd, 1998), Jeremy Podeswa (The Five Senses, 1999), John Paizs (Top of the Food Chain, 1999) and Daniel MacIvor (Wilby Wonderful, 2004), and has appeared in such high profile films as Paul Gross's Men with Brooms (2002) and William Phillips's Foolproof (2003). Allodi's feature directing debut, The Uncles (2000), received wide critical acclaim both at the Toronto International Film Festival and upon its commercial release. Shot on a Sony DSR-500 widescreen camera on a budget of $450,000, it was the first movie produced by the Canadian Film Centre's feature film fund to be shot on digital video. It was named one of Canada's Top Ten of 2001 by an independent, national panel of filmmakers, programmers, journalists and industry professionals.
